Los Alisos Middle School serves as a learning community where students are challenged and are engaged in rigorous academics through a standards-based curriculum. We have a strong team of dedicated individuals who provide a welcoming environment where the top priorities are academic achievement and a safe and nurturing school. Our school program is designed to assist adolescents in making successful transitions from elementary to middle school, and one that prepares them for the challenges of high school and beyond.
Our API is upward bound and have now reached a score of 801; growing 16 points for the 2012 school year! Our priority is on-going quality professional development. At Los Alisos, we plan our curriculum, instruction, assessments, and staff development to meet the needs of all our students. We hold both staff and students accountable for their work, as we provide instruction that meet or exceed the current State standards. We are currently developing professional development focusing on the new California Common Core Standards; which will prepare teachers to deliver quality instruction with an emphasis on college and career readiness.
We are proud to continue growing our AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program. AVID is a college-readiness system designed to increase the number of students who enroll in four-year colleges. Our GATE students 6-8 are offered a Pre-AP Language Arts courses and Honors Math that includes Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry. Students need to meet a specific criteria to be part of these courses. Los Alisos's Magnet Program is now in it's second year and going strong. Our students are extremely dedicated to the courses in the Math, Science, and Technology Magnet. Our magnet program is geared to motivate students to study STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) in partnership with Project Lead The Way (PLTW). To grow our program, we are planning to add a couple of new strands in the 7th and 8th grade by branching out in the technology strand to include Video Production and Broadcasting and in the science strand a new middle school Biomedical Course, called Medical Detectives (MD), both will be in effect for the 2012-2013 school year.
Intervention opportunities are offered to all students who need extra support in language arts and math in order to achieve academic proficiency. For example, we offer math support through iPass and iReady, a robust, online platforms that offers a computer-adaptive diagnostic, personalized data-driven instruction on foundation skills, and standards-based practice. Students can also participate in our athletic teams: track and field, cross-country, volleyball, football, soccer, basketball, softball and cheerleading. Students are also offered a variety of enrichment activities that include: Academic Pentathlon, Art, Band, Orchestra, and Guitar; Leadership/ASB, WEB Leadership, and Science Camp opportunities.
We invite parents to become involved at Los Alisos by volunteering, joining parent groups such as, PTSA, SSC and ELAC.
