  • Black History Month

Black History Month: Just a little reminder that February is Black History Month, let’s all celebrate the contribution to our society. January 1, 1863, the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President. It effectively freed 3 million slaves living in the US, but did not free the slaves in the Border States that remained part of the Union. Those slaves were freed when the 13th Amendment was issued two years later. Approximately 186,000 freed African-American men went on to join the Union Army in fighting against the south.
