PURPOSE:

The After School Education and Safety Preparatory is dedicated to making the world a better place, one project at a time.  We believe in developing students that are "solutionaries" for a better future.  By filtering instruction through Social Justice Education, students will apply what they learn to developing solutions to real-world problems.  This involves:

  • EDUCATION:  Students are made aware of issues that relate to social justice in their school, community, and the world
  • EMPOWERMENT:  Students further investigate the issues and generate real solutions (21st Century Skills and Common Core integration)
  • ACTION:  Students actively address real-world problems by applying their solutions and seeing their actions turn into social change (Better World Projects/ Project-Based Learning)

The After School Education and Safety Preparatory, ASES Prep, provides supplemental academic and social-emotional support after school to over 1,100 kids throughout the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District at no cost to its participants in an effort to help close the Achievement Gap in K-12 education. Since its inception 4 years ago, it has maintained a strong academic focus by providing students with meaningful standards-based instruction through the implementation of research-based and data-driven teaching practices.  The program's educators meet with students in both whole group and small group settings to provide instruction that is aimed at developing socially conscious students dedicated to making the world a better place.  ASES Prep's curriculum is further reinforced through curricular alignment with the District’s Units of Study and Common Core.
