A recent Los Angeles Times article entitled Not At Home With English stated that 53% of the population in Los Angeles speak a language different than English in their private lives. One of our missions at Morrison is to honor and value the home language that our students bring to school while at the same time making sure they are academically competitive in English. We encourage all our students in grades 2 through 6 to make use of Study Island. This internet based service is paid for by the school but can be accessed by the students from any computer with internet service. This program provides standards based lessons that parents can review and allows students and parents to practice appropriate grade level skills in reading, writing, and math.
