WELCOME to SIXTH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS CLASSES-Periods 1 and 2!
This year, you will have the opportunity to strengthen your Language Arts skills and deepen your knowledge and understanding of the world around us. Throughout the year, you will have the learning experiences to engage in the in-depth study of the reading and writing processes that will enhance your mastery of the academic content standards in Language Arts.

In Sixth Grade, we will cover eight units of study that will have both Reading and Writing Focus. These range from identifying and analyzing different elements of fiction; making connection to the texts and the  world around us with informational materials read; literary analyses of prose and poetry; to writing narratives based on personal experiences; persuasive compositions for specific purposes; and writing research reports using the established research standards to explore topics with depth and complexity.

Independent reading is a major focus  Do you know that you are, as students, required to read 1 million words each year by the end of middle school? You can do it! You and I will work to begin to  attain this goal this year!

Activities will be outlined by unit as each unit is introduced.  Interactive Notebooks are major tools for capturing students' thinking about the topics being studied.
