AVID is a College Preparatory Program offered at:

Los Alisos Middle School

AVID is designed to increase school wide learning and performance through an elective, which provides academic, social and curriculum support. The mission of AVID is to ensure that these students:

• Will succeed in rigorous curriculum
• Will learn advanced note-taking and study skills, focused tutorials and college-centered events
• Will enter mainstream activities of the school
• Will increase their enrollment in four-year colleges and
• Will become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a global society.

AVID Objectives:

• To provide academic instruction and other support to students and to prepare them for eligibility to four-year colleges and universities
• To give students college level entry skills
• To increase the “coping skills” of program participants
• To motivate program students to seek a college education

WHO MAY PARTICIPATE?

Students who have the potential and desire to attend a 4-year college and . . .

• Have appropriate classroom behavior
• Have between a 2.0 and 3.5 grade point average
• Have good work habits
• Are willing to commit to a minimum of two hours of homework daily
• Are willing to commit to enrollment in a rigorous college preparatory coursework
